Nancy Pelosi
Nancy Patricia Pelosi is an American politician who served as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011. She has served in the United States House of Representatives since 1987, representing California’s 12th congressional district. The majority of San Francisco is represented by the district, which was known as the 5th district from 1987 to 1993 and the 8th district from 1993 to 2013.
Pelosi is a member of the Democratic Party and the first woman to lead a major political party in either chamber of Congress. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., in 1962. In the 1960s, Pelosi interned for Senator Daniel Brewster (D-Maryland) alongside future House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.
Is Paul Pelosi Attacker Arrested?
According to the Speaker’s office, Paul Pelosi “underwent successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands” resulting from the attack later Friday. According to the Speaker’s office, Paul Pelosi’s doctors expect him to make a full recovery.
According to a law enforcement source, David Wayne Depape, 42, of nearby Berkeley, had planned to bind the Speaker’s husband and wait for her to return home. Nancy Pelosi was in Washington, D.C., at the time of the attack, according to her spokesperson Drew Hamill. Officers from the San Francisco Police Department arrived at the home at 2:27 a.m. and arrested the suspect on the spot. He will be charged with attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary, and several other felonies, according to the department.

The Crime Scene
According to San Francisco Police Chief William Scott, the suspect forced his way into the Pelosi residence through the back door. Scott also told reporters that responding officers saw the suspect use a hammer to attack Paul Pelosi.
According to a senior federal law enforcement official, Paul Pelosi dialled 911 and then hung up. The dispatcher inquired what was wrong and received no response but did hear someone being threatened. According to the official, the dispatcher, who had no idea whose house it was, decided to dispatch emergency services because someone’s life appeared to be in danger.
According to a federal law enforcement official, when officers arrived on the scene, they immediately noticed broken glass and went inside the house. According to Scott, responding officers knocked on the front door, which was “opened by someone inside,” revealing Pelosi and the suspect just inside the home’s entryway. The officers, standing outside the house at this point, “observed Mr Pelosi and Mr Depape, each with one hand on a single hammer.”
After officers told both men to drop the hammer, the suspect yanked it from Pelosi’s grasp and “violently attacked him” with it, according to Scott. According to Scott, officers then entered the house, tackled the suspect, seized the hammer, and arrested him. According to the San Francisco police chief, the suspect was also taken to the hospital.

Who Is David Depape?
The suspect in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband’s hammer attack appears to have made racist and often rambling online posts, including some that questioned the outcome of the 2020 election, defended former President Donald Trump, and echoed QAnon conspiracy theories.
David DePape, 42, grew up in Powell River, British Columbia, before moving to San Francisco to follow an older girlfriend about 20 years ago. DePape’s street address in the Bay Area college town of Berkeley led to a post office box at a UPS Store.
DePape was arrested early Friday at the Pelosi residence. Brooke Jenkins, the District Attorney for San Francisco, stated that she expects to file multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, and elder abuse. Stepfather Gene DePape said the suspect was a quiet boy who lived with him in Canada until he was 14 years old.
“David was never violent that I have seen and was never in any trouble, although he was very reclusive and played too many video games,” Gene DePape said.
He claims he last saw his stepson in 2003 and has attempted to contact him several times without success.
