Cruz died in a car accident while driving to a volleyball competition in Austin, Texas, with other members of her team and their families on February 3. Cruz, her parents, and two other families hired an SUV to drive to Austin when their flights were cancelled due to bad weather. Unfortunately, the automobile lost control after hitting black ice and colliding with a truck. Alexa Cruz, a Laveen Cesar Chavez volleyball player, was killed in a car accident in Texas in early February while on her way to a competition.

The Venom Red 18 Volleyball team played for the first time since the death of a comrade. Before the games on Saturday, hundreds of players and fans gathered at State Farm Stadium for a moment of silence in honour of Alexa Cruz. On February 3, the 17-year-old was killed in an automobile accident. Three Venom Volleyball Club athletes and their families were on their way to Texas for the Lone Star Nationals Tournament when their SUV hit black ice. Several others were critically injured, including Alexa’s mother, Sandra Cruz. Because of the incident, Venom initially withdrew from the event. Then, however, the team brainstormed and considered what Alexa would want.

According to the Venom Volleyball Club Coach, a few teammates and their parents were involved in a car accident due to the terrible icy conditions on the road. The three club families lost control of their vehicle and collided with a semi-truck, killing Alexa Cruz and wounding numerous others. Last weekend, families from all around travelled to Austin to compete in the Lone Star National Qualifier, including the Moreno family. Unbeknownst to them, they would be only minutes behind the Venom Volleyball Club Team and one of the first to see the horrible crash.
