Cop Arrests Man For Rolling Up Window

Outrage has been expressed locally, statewide, and nationally in response to police footage showing Keller police officers arresting and pepper-spraying a North Texas man, as well as arresting his 22-year-old son for a driving violation.

Since WFAA initially reported the story last Monday, other outlets, including TMZ and the New York Times, have run their own articles highlighting Marco Puente and his son Dillon’s arrests in August.

Father And Son Arrested For Rolling Up Window

According to the father’s attorney, the city of Keller has agreed to pay $200,000 to a man who was pepper-sprayed and detained after he videotaped a police officer who stopped his son for making a wide right turn. Last month, Marco Puente filed a lawsuit in federal court in Fort Worth against two Keller police officers, accusing them of using excessive force and making an unlawful arrest during the incident on August 15. Sgt. Blake Shimanek stopped Marco Puente’s son Dillon for making a wide right turn, according to the body camera footage taken by the police.

What Did Scott Palmer and James Roberts Say?

In a mediation session on Friday, when the city agreed to pay $200,000, the Puentes’ attorney, Scott Palmer, stated on Sunday that all parties reached an understanding to end the lawsuit.
Palmer and lawyer James Roberts released a statement that read, “The Puente family is delighted to have this regrettable and senseless situation behind them.” “Both Dillon and Marco will be well compensated by this settlement.”
Police chief Brad Fortune was praised for moving swiftly to “address the flaws” in the case, but the statement also stated that “it is disheartening that these officers are still working at the Keller Police Department.” On Sunday, Keller Mayor Armin Mizani acknowledged that the mediation had taken place but added that he was still awaiting the signatures of all parties.
