According to a December 2020 article in The Washington Post, Snyder paid $1.6 million to resolve an allegation with a former team staffer from 2009. As per ESPN, on his flight, a former team member said that Snyder tried to take her clothing off, touched her inappropriately, and asked her for sex. The woman’s claim was rejected by Snyder as “meritless.” His attorneys informed ESPN that “an investigation determined that the claimed event never occurred, as Snyder acknowledged under oath to the House Oversight Committee. They also said that Snyder chose to settle with her rather than take her to court because it was less expensive.

Brendan Sullivan Jr., the lady’s attorney, told ESPN that Snyder’s attorneys offered to pay the woman a second unknown sum last year in an effort to prevent her from talking about the alleged incident with anybody, including Wilkinson, but their efforts were unsuccessful. According to Sullivan, Snyder’s attorneys’ offer was “flatly refused.” Two sources with firsthand knowledge of the offer claimed that Snyder had made the woman an offer that was “in the seven figures” and was for “a big sum.” Snyder’s attorneys refuted Sullivan’s claim that a second offer was made.

According to a source, former U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White, who is currently looking into Snyder for the NFL, spoke with the woman earlier this year. If all the information about the alleged sexual assault were ever made public, according to a former executive with knowledge of the incident, it might be “the tipping point” that leads to Snyder being fired as owner.
