Dolly Parton Health Update
Dolly’s career began in 1967 with the release of her debut album Hello, I’m Dolly. The superstar has remarkably maintained a successful career, selling over 100 million records worldwide. In addition, she has 25 songs that have reached at the top on the Billboard country music chart and an award cabinet to match. On the other hand, Dolly has struggled with health issues for much of her career. She revealed some of this in her 2017 book Dolly on Dolly: Interviews and Encounters with Dolly Parton.
Is Dolly Parton Sick?
The star’s health problems struck specifically after she had achieved massive success with the hit song 9 to 5 and made her film debut with The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. These looming issues reached a head in 1984, when the star collapsed on stage in Indianapolis, despite doctor’s orders not to perform. The star was diagnosed with endometriosis after experiencing internal bleeding. Endometriosis is a painful disorder in which tissue similar to that which usually lines the inside of your uterus grows outside your uterus. The star was then forced to undergo a partial hysterectomy at 36, effectively ending her chances of naturally conceiving.
What Is Wrong With Dolly Parton?
Dolly was devastated by the diagnosis, and she went into a deep depression that caused her to binge eat, drink excessively, and even consider suicide. Dolly gained 50 pounds due to her toxic lifestyle, admitting that she would eat three pizzas but still crave popcorn, french fries, and McDonald’s before starving herself.
She continued to say: “On top of being drugged, Dietin’ Dolly would go on liquid protein, Scarsdale, Atkins, the water diet, then I’d binge, diet, gain, start all over again.
“Eventually, my system wouldn’t work anymore. My body couldn’t hold up under that strain. Overeating is as much a sickness as drugs or alcohol.”
Why Does Dolly Parton Wear Long Sleeves?
Dolly was asked why she always wears long sleeves. Vanity Fair wondered if she had tattoos she was concealing, and while she does have tattoos, she got them to cover up scars on her body.
“I have a tendency to have keloid scar tissue, and I have a tendency where if I have any kind of scars anywhere then they kind of have a purple tinge that I can never get rid of. So [my tattoos] are all pastels, what few that I have, and they’re meant to cover some scars.”
She wears long sleeves to cover up the numerous tattoos she has on her body. The tattoos are intended to cover up the scars on her body.
Dolly Mania, a website dedicated to Dolly Parton superfans owned and operated by Duane Gordon since 1996, may also answer this question for us. Duane has responded to the question about fingerless gloves.
“I can relay third-hand information that she was asked about the gloves by fans while filming scenes for her upcoming movie Joyful Noise and told them that last year she had had corrective hand surgery (medical, not cosmetic) and it left a scar that she’s covering. Again, I’ve not heard that directly from Dolly or her management, but I’m told that’s the answer she gave privately in Atlanta to those who asked.”
It’s safe to assume gloves are worn to conceal scarring.
