Is Cuba Gooding Jr Arrested?

In June 2019, Gooding was arrested after Harbert told police that he rubbed her without her consent at Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge near Times Square.

Prosecutors later charged Gooding with pinching a server’s buttocks after making a sexually suggestive remark to her at TAO Downtown and forcibly kissing a waitress at LAVO New York in midtown Manhattan, both in 2018. In a victim impact statement, the LAVO waitress stated that Gooding was facing “minimal repercussions” while his victims dealt with the emotional trauma of his actions.

Cuba Gooding Jr Case

In April, Gooding admitted to kissing a waitress on the lips without her consent in a nightclub in 2018. Previously, the Jerry Maguire star had pleaded not guilty. He was sentenced to counselling with the possibility of having his conviction reduced to a lesser offence if he behaved well. According to the Associated Press, the prosecutor told the court on Thursday that Gooding had completed six months of alcohol and behaviour modification counselling and had remained out of trouble. He was allowed to withdraw his misdemeanour plea and plead guilty to harassment.

In 2019, Gooding was arrested for groping and unwanted touching. Over the years, over a dozen women have accused the actor of inappropriate behaviour. Prosecutors hoped to use the testimony of 19 women in the trial to establish Gooding’s pattern of predatory behaviour. Instead, the judge ruled that two women could testify, but prosecutors say the decision was later reversed, prompting them to seek a plea deal.

Gooding was one of many famous men who fell victim to the #MeToo movement, which swept through Hollywood following the explosive allegations against Harvey Weinstein in October 2017. So it’s been a big week on the court for a few stars who were once at the top of their game.

What Did Cuba Gooding Jr Do?

Mr Gooding was charged with sexual abuse and forcible touching in the summer of 2019 after a woman, later identified as Kelsey Harbert, told detectives that he had touched her breast inside Magic Hour, a rooftop bar in the Moxy NYC Times Square hotel.

The accusations piled up that fall. Mr Gooding was charged with groping a woman at Lavo, an Italian restaurant on East 58th Street with a nightclub downstairs, and pinching the buttocks of another woman working at Tao Downtown, a Chelsea nightclub. In a lawsuit filed in State Supreme Court in Manhattan, the woman at Tao identified herself as Natasha Ashworth. She accused Mr Gooding of battery, assault, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

As the district attorney’s office investigated, more women, mostly from outside of Manhattan, came forward with their accounts of Mr Gooding’s behaviour, detailing events that had occurred several years before.

Nonetheless, prosecutors drew on some of those accounts when asking Justice Farber to allow the 19 additional women to testify in Mr Gooding’s trial, writing that his “prior acts demonstrate that his contacts with their intimate parts are intentional, not accidental and that he is not mistaken about their lack of consent.”

Cuba Gooding Jr News

After complying with the terms of a conditional plea agreement reached in April, actor Cuba Gooding Jr. resolved his New York City forcible touching case Thursday with a guilty plea to a lesser charge and no jail time.

According to Prosecutor Coleen Balbert, Gooding has stayed out of trouble and completed six months of alcohol and behaviour modification counselling, which allowed him to withdraw his misdemeanour plea and plead guilty to a harassment violation.

Balbert stated that Gooding’s therapist has given her “positive reports for the last six months.” According to Balbert, the actor continues his treatment beyond the time specified in his plea agreement. As a result, Cuba Gooding, 54, faces no additional penalties and will not have a criminal record because he replaced his misdemeanour plea with a plea to a noncriminal violation. If Gooding had not followed the terms of the agreement, he could have faced up to a year in prison.
