Jeremy Mansfield, a radio legend, died after a battle with stage four liver cancer. Samantha Cowen, a close friend and former colleague, confirmed Mansfield’s death in a statement on Monday morning. In January, the radio personality revealed that he had been diagnosed with liver cancer. He announced on Facebook in August that his diagnosis was terminal, vowing to “have as much fun in the time I have left and fulfil as many dreams, big and small, I have on my bucket list.” Two months later, Mansfield made his first social media appearance since his terminal diagnosis, thanking fans for their well-wishes. In addition, he gave an update on his health, saying that he has “up and down” days but that “thank goodness” the day the video was shot was an “up” day.

How Did Jeremy Mansfield Die?
In January, Jeremy revealed that his cancer had returned. Then, early last month, he shared the heartbreaking news that his cancer had progressed to stage 4 and was terminal, with only palliative care available.
“[I] have had it confirmed by the specialist surgeon leading everyone in the team looking after me that my cancer is confirmed stage 4, terminal and is now only subject to palliative care.
“This dream team (as I now refer to them) will now guide me through how to have as much fun in the time I have left and fulfil as many dreams, big and small, [as] I have in my bucket list. A new journey for Kari and the rest of our families starts today,” he shared with his more than 84 000 Facebook followers in August.
Sam Cowen, a long-time friend and co-host of the breakfast show Breakfast Express Weekdays on Johannesburg radio station 947, kept people updated on Mansfield’s condition, saying he was resting comfortably and surrounded by people who loved him.
For 13 years, the duo ruled the airwaves. Mansfield revealed in 2009 that he had been diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia. He left the station a year later. Mansfield returned to the airwaves in 2018 as the host of Hot 91.9 FM’s new morning show, Mansfield in the Morning, alongside long-time colleague Sam Cowen. Mansfield was born in Grahamstown and educated at the prestigious Kingswood College. At Rhodes University, he studied Speech and Drama as well as Journalism.
