Wheatus’s song Teenage Dirtbag has become the latest TikTok trend, but what does it really mean?
TikTok has been buzzing with new trends from time to time, and the most recent one to sweep the platform is all thanks to a song released in 2000.
Fast forward to 2022, and people are resurrecting the song and reliving some of their past experiences.
EXPLAINING THE MEANING OF ‘TEENAGE DIRTBAG’
To put it simply, a teenage dirtbag is someone who is rebellious. It is someone who disregards what others think and follows their heart.
While these people may appear to some as outcasts, they are the ones who choose to disregard the rules and do what they want.
When the band first released it in 2000, the song was also very valuable. Ruston Kelly debuted the live version of the song in 2010.
“I mean, if someone calls you a name, and then you call yourself that, you automatically have power over what that name would try to take away from you,” he explained to NPR.
Maybe I’m just a confused, hny adolescent piece of s* at times, and that’s fine.”
TREND TAKES OVER TIKTOK
Some people have been revisiting their past selves and creating videos using the song. For some, the phrase “teenage dirtbag” refers to a rebellious period in their lives.
Meanwhile, for others, it recalls some of their most embarrassing moments as well as those they have long forgotten.
Regardless, the trend has piqued everyone’s interest and created quite a stir on the platform.
