Who Is Charles Cullen?
Serial killer Charles Edmund Cullen was born in the United States on February 22, 1960. During a sixteen-year career spanning various medical locations in New Jersey, Cullen, a nurse, killed dozens, if not hundreds, of patients until being captured in 2003. He admitted to as many as forty murders, of which at least 29 have been proven. However, conversations with police, psychiatric professionals, and journalists imply he may have committed many more.

How Did They Catch Charles Cullen?
In an attempt to gather further proof linking Cullen to the dramatic rise in suspicious fatalities at Somerset Medical Center in 2003, Detectives Tim Braun and Danny Baldwin enlisted the aid of Cullen’s close friend and former coworker Amy Loughren. Loughren wore a recorder while confronting Cullen about the killings and finally recording his confession. He also presented evidence of Cullen withdrawing large amounts of a medicine that wasn’t frequently used in their unit. Wayne J. Forrest, the prosecutor for Somerset County, started questioning witnesses and looking through medical data.
Hospital administrators “combed over Mr Cullen’s personnel file,” according to The New York Times, and found that Cullen had lied on his application for employment. That Halloween, he was let go. Additionally, Detective Braun learned that Cullen had previously been charged with trespassing in Palmer, Pennsylvania, and contacted Palmer authorities to learn more about the incident.
When Did Charles Cullen Get Caught?
According to The Cinemaholic, Palmer police discovered a note with the word “digoxin”—a type of medication—pasted to Cullen’s file. Detective Braun found that the same heart drug had been given to deceased patients at the Easton hospital, where Cullen had previously worked. Cullen’s close friend and coworker at Somerset Medical Center, Amy Loughren, was shown the evidence by detectives Braun and Baldwin. She affirmed that the pill wasn’t a necessary prescription that was frequently taken on their unit. Finally on December 12, 2003 he was arrested and sentenced for his crime.
How Many Hospitals Did Charles Cullen Work At?
The New York Times claims that before being apprehended, Cullen was dismissed from numerous jobs, avoided four suspicious death investigations, at least three or four suicide attempts, and was admitted to four psychiatric hospitals. He worked in nine hospitals and care homes in New Jersey and Pennsylvania from 1988 to 2003, and according to The New York Daily News, he was fired or forced out of six of them. Although Cullen is thought to have killed up to 400 people, little is known about the majority of them
