Gerald Allen McClellan is a former professional boxer from the United States who competed from 1988 to 1995. He is a two-time world champion at middleweight, having held the WBO belt from 1991 to 1992 and the WBC title from 1993 to 1995. However, McClellan was forced to retire from boxing after suffering a severe brain injury during his final bout, losing to WBC super middleweight champion Nigel Benn in 1995.

He was transported to the Royal London Hospital for emergency surgery to remove a blood clot. Following the tragedy, McClellan lost his sight and most of his hearing. Benn survived, and the two engaged in a vicious battle that concluded when the 25-year-old McClellan, who had begun acting bizarrely in the later rounds, virtually took a knee and was ruled out in the last game.McClellan fell as he walked back to his corner. He went into a coma at the hospital, and when he awoke, he was a broken man. He has lost his sight and ability to walk and has difficulty comprehending.
