Casualty is a British medical drama television series that debuted on BBC1 on September 6, 1986. Jeremy Brock and Paul Unwin created the show. It is set in the fictitious Holby City Hospital in the fictitious city of Holby, and it shares characters and plot lines with the spin-off show Holby City. Casualty follows the professional and personal lives of Holby General’s doctors, nurses, paramedics, hospital administration, and patients. It has an ensemble cast of regular characters and began with ten main characters in its first series, all but one of whom has since left the series – Charlie Fairhead (played by Derek Thompson). Since then, many main characters have been written in and out of the series. In addition, Casualty features a guest star each week and recurring guests who participate in story arcs that span a portion of a series or multiple series.

Jeffrey “Jeff” Collier (October/November 1971 – October 4, 2014) was a Holby Ambulance Service paramedic. He joined the military in 2007 and died on the job in 2014 when a vehicle he was in exploded.

Jeff and Polly Emmerson, Adam Trueman, and Heather Whitefield were dispatched to the decommissioned Pines Shopping Centre to treat Ella, a freerunner whose arm had been injured by a turbine. Unfortunately, to profit from an insurance claim, the shopping centre’s owner, Richard Tweedie, decided to demolish the structure by heating gasoline until it exploded. Jeff ignored Dixie’s orders and ran back inside the building with security guard Lee to find Adam, Heather, and Ella after assisting many of the shopping centre’s homeless residents to escape. When they were reunited, Jeff was separated from the group by falling debris and was told by Adam to leave the building to call for help, but Jeff got lost and thought he was about to burn to death. Fortunately, he was discovered and rescued by firefighters.

On October 4 2014, Jeff left after being killed in an accident in which he saved the life of Martin Ashford (Patrick Robinson). This resulted in the departure of Tamzin Bayle (Gemma Atkinson), the permanent return of Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson), and the appearance of Jamie Collier as a guest star (Daniel Anthony).
