Fans of the films will recall a film called Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, released in 1998. It was released to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original film, and it features Laurie Strode’s son (Josh Hartnett). We must find out what happened to Laurie Strode’s son.
Laurie Strode most certainly had a son. Halloween: H20, released in 1998, was a direct sequel to the 1981 film Halloween II. In H20, we learn that Laurie fabricated her death and is now employed at a posh private school where her son also attends.
Of course, Michael Myers can track her down. He attempts to murder her and her son, but Laurie decapitates him. In Resurrection, we learn that it was not Michael who was murdered. This information leads to her being committed to a psychiatric hospital, where Michael murders her. Her son is not in the film.
Did Laurie Strode Have A Son?
Laurie Strode in 2018’s Halloween is almost identical to Sarah Connor in Terminator 2. She is still deeply traumatised by her encounter with Michael, but she has learned to fight back. The cabin she lives in, right next to the psychiatric hospital where Michael is being held, has a secret room filled with guns. We also learn that Laurie has a daughter, Judy Greer, who is estranged from her mother.
We quickly realise that this estrangement results from her daughter’s resentment of how she was raised. Laurie not only taught herself how to fight, but she also taught her daughter. In flashbacks, we see scenes from Laurie’s daughter’s childhood. She was raised primarily as a trained fighter.
It paid off in the end. Judy Greer’s character survives at the end of the film and will appear alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in the sequel, Halloween Kills. Halloween Kills will be released in theatres on October 15th and available to stream on Peacock.
Why Did Laurie Strode Abandon Her Daughter?
After Halloween H20, the Laurie Strode son character did not return to the Halloween franchise. As a result, audiences are unlikely to see John again. While Laurie does have family in the recently rebooted Halloween canon, Andi Matichak, who plays her granddaughter Allyson Nelson, has taken over the role. Laurie lives with her granddaughter, a nurse, in Halloween Ends while writing a memoir. The plot of Halloween Ends primarily focuses on Allyson and Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) and their budding love affair amid Michael Myers/The Shape’s next killing spree.
Both the Josh Hartnett Halloween character and Laurie’s daughter Jamie are absent from the film. It needs to be clarified why the franchise decided to retcon Josh Hartnett’s character, especially since the Halloween franchise began over with Halloween H20, ignoring Laurie’s daughter and everything that happened after Halloween 2. In Halloween Kills, Karen Nelson (Judy Greer) is now Laurie’s daughter, but Michael Myers murders her.
There is no formal reason why the Halloween films have decided to discard Laurie’s former children entirely, but there isn’t a huge fanbase demand for their return either. Still, for those who haven’t seen all thirteen Halloween films, entering Halloween Ends or Kills and discovering Laurie has a completely new Josh Hartnett-free family can be jarring.
What Is Michael Myers Relationship To Laurie Strode?
Michael first encounters Laurie when he notices her dropping off a key to her father, Morgan Strode (Peter Griffith), at the empty Myers house. Morgan is the realtor selling the house, and something about Laurie piques Michael’s interest, which is why he follows her around all day. He begins by targeting her friends before moving on to Laurie herself. Her ability to keep Michael on his toes is likely what makes the killer even more determined to pursue her. Everyone else succumbs to his ruthlessness, but Laurie always manages to elude him in the nick of time.
However, “Halloween II” reveals an even more sinister reason for Laurie and Michael’s eternal bond, as they are siblings. The Strode family adopted Laurie after her parents died in a car accident in 1965, just five years after Michael murdered his sister Judith Myers (Sandy Johnson). The sequel even reveals that Laurie visited her brother in the sanatorium when she was younger, but she forgot about it after repressing those memories for years.
Did Laurie Strode Die In Halloween Resurrection?
We now know it was the former, with Laurie Strode and her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) finally collaborating to kill Michael Myers. Laurie survived, but it wouldn’t have been the first time she died. Laurie Strode has been killed off twice in Halloween’s convoluted timeline.
Halloween 2018 was a huge success, grossing a whopping $255.6 million worldwide. It would become a trilogy, with Halloween Kills in 2021 and Halloween Ends this year. While the films were not as well received as the 2018 story, and one could argue that the story of Laurie Strode and Michael Myers should have ended there, they were still successful and entertaining. Just as importantly, it marked the end of the saga, as Michael Myers died for real this time, his maskless body being fed into an industrial shredder. It rendered his return impossible due to some flimsy explanation or ruse.
While The Boogeyman will undoubtedly be reincarnated in some form, this version of Myers is dead and will not return. As Jamie Lee Curtis bids farewell to Halloween once more, it’s important to remember that these films were only made to compensate for Laurie Strode’s death in Halloween: Resurrection. This new trilogy would not have happened if the disaster had not occurred.
