According to Distractify, Lino received a diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma in his knee while living in America. In order to stop the cancer from spreading, he next undergoes chemotherapy and knee surgery. For Lino, these operations make it difficult to stand, move about, and prepare food.
After numerous rounds of chemotherapy, an experimental trial, and surgery, Lino initially appears to be in good health, but seven years later his cancer returns. His lungs have been affected by the malignancy this time.
Idalia, their adopted daughter, and Amy support him the entire time.

According to Vulture, the cancer spreads, and Lino passes away surrounded by those he loved.

The last few episodes are extremely tragic. Finally, Amy and Idalia travel back to Italy to see Lino’s relatives. His mother reminds Amy of the place where they first fell in love while assisting Amy in realizing that Lino gave her a home and a family all around the world.
