Who Is Channel 4 Krishnan Guru Murthy?

Krishnan Guru-Murthy is a journalist from Britain. He is the lead presenter of Channel 4 News. He is also the presenter of the Unreported World. Unreported World is a foreign-affairs documentary series. He started his career in 1988 with the BBC’s DEF II discussion programme Open to Question and the youth current-affairs programme Reportage. While he was at Oxford University, he presented BBC2’s Asian current-affairs programmes East and Network East. He has also presented and reported for the children’s news programme Newsround from 1991 to 1994.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy was taken off air for a week after he was seen making an offensive off-camera comment about the Northern Ireland minister Steve Baker. At the time of an off-air moment after his exchange with Baker on 19th October 2022, he was heard saying: “What a cunt.” The Broadcaster said that Krishnan Guru Murthy would not come back to Channel 4 News before 4th November because of a pre-existing week of leave.

Following the incident, Guru-Murthy apologised to Baker on Twitter. Krishnan wrote: “After a robust interview with Steve Baker MP, I used a very offensive word in an unguarded moment off the air. “While it was not broadcast, that word in any context is beneath the standards I set myself, and I apologise unreservedly. “I have reached out to Steve Baker to say sorry.” In an interview with Times Radio, Steve Baker said that dismissing Guru-Murthy would be a “service to the public”.

Krishnan Guru Murthy was born on 5th April 1970 in Liverpool, England. As per Wikipedia, he is 52 years old. Krishnan’s father is an Indian consultant radiologist who worked in Blackburn and Burnley. Initially, his family lived in Liverpool; they went to a ‘gothic folly’ in a village outside Burnley. Krishnan studied at the private Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Blackburn. Later he pursued Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Hertford College, Oxford. His sister Geeta Guru-Murthy is a BBC News journalist. Krishnan’s brother Ravi Guru-Murthy worked as the Chief Innovation Officer of the International Rescue Committee.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy is a married man. He is the father of two children. He suffers from Crohn’s disease. Krishnan has played in a rock band with Peter Barron and the chief creative officer of Endemol UK. Krishnan Guru-Murthy is a trustee of the Duchenne Children’s Trust. He is also the founder of the Duchenne Dash, a 24-hour cycle ride from London to Paris, in 2013. In 2018, Krishnan was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He was reappointed for the role in 2021.
