Why Is Monica Galetti Leaving Masterchef?
Monica Galetti, a judge on The Professionals, is taking a break from her role as a judge for the next series on BBC One.
Monica has been a member of the judging panel for the past 14 years, first alongside Michel Roux Jr and Gregg Wallace and then, beginning in 2014, with Marcus Wareing.
Monica says: “It is with a heavy heart that I’ve made this decision to step back from filming this year’s series of MasterChef: The Professionals.
“My family need me, my restaurant needs me and trying to balance long filming days over the next three months with all these commitments meant that something had to give.
“So, for the moment, my focus has to be 100% about my loved ones and rebuilding my kitchen team who have had a battering over the last few months especially. Those in the hospitality industry know just how tough it is at the moment.
“To my MasterChef family, crew and friends, I’m so sorry that I won’t be with you this year but I hope to be back soon.
“Thank you to both BBC and Shine TV for being so understanding of my decision but for this year I’ll be your number one supporter from the side lines. To my fellow judges and friends Marcus and Gregg – I’ll be watching – you’ve got this! If you’re ever unsure just think – what would Mon do?! See you soon!”
Sarah Clay, Commissioning Editor for Entertainment at the BBC, says: “Monica is a valued member of the MasterChef family, and while we will miss her expertise and invaluable cooking and food knowledge, we fully support her filming break to focus on her family and business. We wish her luck and hope to see her back in the MasterChef kitchen in the future.”
David Ambler, Executive Editor MasterChef, says: “Monica is one of the most talented chefs of her generation, we have worked together closely for the past 14 years and regard her as an integral member of the MasterChef family. Our hope is this situation is just for this season and the door is always open for her to return.”
Monica Galetti Husband
David Galetti, along with his wife Monica, works in the food industry. They co-own Mere Restaurant in Fitzrovia, where he is the proprietor. They started the business in March of 2017. David began his career as a sommelier and received three Michelin stars. He is French and moved to London in 2001 after completing National Service and training.
Does Monica Galetti Have Children?
Anais, the couple’s 13-year-old daughter, is the couple’s only child. She was born in 2007 and grew up in Surrey. Monica revealed to the Financial Times that she returned to work when her daughter was nine months old, so balancing work and family has been difficult.
Monica told Time & Leisure: “We used to live really central, just round the corner from where Mere is – actually in Fitzrovia – and we loved it but thought it was important to get out of the city when Anais was born so she could enjoy having a big garden to play in.”
When Did David And Monica Get Married?
Monica and David tied the knot in 2004. Monica told The Independent, “The most precious item I have is my wedding dress.” In 2001, the power couple met while David was working as a Sommelier at Le Gavroche, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Mayfair.
Working together isn’t a problem for the couple, as Monica told The Independent: “It is challenging but it’s been the most rewarding experience to be our own bosses and work with a fantastic team.”
She also stated that opening Mere with David was her most rewarding professional experience.
