Guru Dutt, whose real name is Vasanth Kumar Shivashankar Padukone, was a popular Indian film director, actor, producer, choreographer, and writer. He was included among CNN’s ‘Top 25 Asian Actors’ in 2012. He directed eight Hindi films and many of which have achieved a cult following internationally. Guru Dutt Cause Of Death
According to Indiatimes, in 1964, Guru Dutt was discovered dead in his rented Mumbai apartment. He died at the age of 39. As per reports, Guru Dutt’s cause of death was a lethal combination of sleeping pills with alcohol. It is also reported that Guru failed multiple suicide attempts.
Guru’s younger brother Devi Dutt has denied speculations of Guru Dutt killing himself out of sad frustration. He had said that Guru Dutt was apparently suffering from a sleeping disorder. He added it could be an accidental overdose of sleeping pills after drinking liquor.
How Did Guru Dutt Die?
Guru Dutt, the legendary actor, died on 10 October 1964. In an interaction with Filmfare, Devi revealed about his last evening with Guru Dutt. Devi still maintains Guru did not commit suicide, and it must have been due to the sleeping pills after heavy drinking with Abrar.

He was born into a Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin family. The late actor’s name was changed to Gurudatta Padukone following a childhood accident, believing that it was an auspicious choice. Guru spent his early childhood in Bhowanipore, Kolkata. He also spoke fluent Bengali.
