Who Is Makybe Diva?

Makybe Diva foaled on 21 March 1999 and is an Australian champion racehorse. It is the only horse that won 3 Melbourne Cups and the only mare to win it. Makybe achieved the feat in 2003, 2004, and 2005 and won the 2005 Cox Plate. She was the highest stakes earner in Australian history, winning more than approximately A$ 14 million.

She is by Desert King and a winner of the Irish Derby and Irish 2,000 Guineas out of Tugela by Riverman in (the USA). Tugela was also the Australian stakes-winners, Musket and Valkyrie Diva. Makybe is owned by a South Australian tuna fisherman who named her after five of his employees – Maureen, Diane, Kylie, Belinda,  and Vanessa.

Is Makybe Diva Still Alive?

Makybe Diva is a champion Australian Thoroughbred Racehorse, and Viewed gave master trainer Bart Cummings his historic 12th and final Melbourne Cup victory. The horse backed up to win the Caulfield Cup the following year, but sadly he died in 2010 after suffering complications from a twisted bowel. Viewed was buried at owner Dato Tan Chin Nam’s Think Big Stud in the NSW Southern Highlands.

Makybe Diva Death

Rockstardom was gelded and died from a skull fracture on 26 July 2013. Encosta De Lago served Makybe in the spring  (of 2007) until the equine influenza outbreak forced the stud to be quarantined. Owner Tony sent the Makybe to American champion Fusaichi Pegasus. On 20 August 2008, Makybe gave birth to her second foal, and that was a happy moment, a filly by the Fusaichi Pegasus, as mentioned above.
