James Catalano, a California gun enthusiast, was arrested for harassing the parents of a late-school shooting victim.
The FBI arrested a Fresno man this week on suspicion of months of harassing a father whose daughter was killed in the Parkland, Florida, mass high school shooting in 2018. He is now being prosecuted on federal charges.
The story of James has quickly spread on social media, and people are outraged by his actions. Many people are outraged and want to see him imprisoned.
Who Is James Catalano Living In Fresno?
James Catalano, 61, of Fresno, California, is accused of sending hundreds of letters to the father of a school shooting victim and tormenting him about his deceased daughter.
James has been charged with one count of cyberstalking following a lengthy harassment campaign that targeted noted gun safety advocate Fred Guttenberg.
Catalano didn’t seem to notice that he was being watched from afar. According to the complaint, Guttenberg’s webmaster installed a ReCaptcha widget on the website in February, logging the IP address of each person who left a comment.
Because the communications originated from three different IP addresses, the government issued a subpoena to Comcast for the relevant information. One of the IP addresses was traced back to Catalano’s Fresno home.
The second was associated with Catalano’s commercial real estate firm, J-C Markets, Inc. While the third test results are still pending, investigators are confident that the IP address is linked to Catalano’s company, according to the lawsuit.
Who Is Fred Guttenberg?
Fred is the victim’s father, and his daughter was killed in the Parkland school shooting. Nikolas Cruz, 23, pleaded guilty in October to 17 counts of first-degree murder. Jaime Guttenberg, 14, a gun control activist, was one of the 17 people killed by gunfire at Marjory Stoneman High School in Parkland.
A jury is currently deliberating whether to sentence him to death or life in prison without the possibility of parole for the nation’s bloodiest mass shooting.
James has harassed Guttenberg on the internet almost on a daily basis. James had been sending him emails that were disrespectful to his daughter and her untimely death. While Fred did not respond to the emails, he did contact the authorities to ensure James’s safety.
Fred is still in mourning over the loss of his beloved daughter. This year she would have turned 19.
What Age Is James Catalano?
James is now 61 years old. While there isn’t much information about James on the internet, he currently resides in Fresno, California.
On Wednesday, FBI agents arrived at Catalano’s home. They gave him copies of some of the messages allegedly sent from IP addresses associated with Catalano, who admitted that he was the one who sent them.
Catalano’s detention was upheld following a hearing on Friday afternoon, according to his attorney, Jeff Hammerschmidt. If found guilty, Catalano faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
