Gus Thompson who is 70 years old was last seen on Thursday.
Gus Thompson, a 70-year-old resident of Cape Town, went missing last Thursday, and his family is asking the public for any information that can support in finding him.
James Thompson, Thompson’s son, informed News24 that his father, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, was seen leaving his care home in Noordhoek on a security camera at 18:00 and was seen passing Chapman’s Peak on CCTV two hours later.
The family did not blame the institution for his father’s disappearance, according to James, who said that when his father felt stressed or overwhelmed, he frequently insisted on wanting to go home.
On the day of his disappearance, Thompson was dressed in a black jacket, blue pants, and running shoes.
Missing Case Update
James said: “Even when he stayed at [our house], he always asked to go home. Home for him is a place of comfort and safety. Whenever he is anxious, he wants to go home.”
“This is a very difficult time and it is an emotional rollercoaster for us as a family,” he added.
James mentioned that volunteers had joined the effort to find his father.
“We are grateful to the hundreds of volunteers that have worked hard day and night over the past few days. They have answered every phone call, followed hundreds of leads, combed through hours of CCTV footage, and assisted us in every way possible.”
In a Facebook post, Thompson’s daughter, Alice, mentioned that there had been a number of inaccurate sightings recorded in Constantia and Plumstead.
She wrote: “The focus of the search is now back to the Chapman’s Peak area, although we now believe he may have gotten into a car. So other areas of Cape Town cannot be ruled out”.
