A mother and daughter have been charged with murder after an unlawful Brazilian Butt Lift resulted in the death of a lady.
Karissa Rajpaul, a 26-year-old woman from Encino, California, documented her Brazilian Butt Lift treatment in a video she shared on social media in September 2020. According to NBC Los Angeles, the video detailed the second of three surgeries she’d had done within a month of the others.
Libby Adame and her daughter Alicia Gomez, a mother-daughter team, performed the operations. Rajpaul, an aspiring adult film star, went to the women, who would transport their supplies to private residences where they would have no access to emergency supplies. The women injected Rajpaul, also known as La Tia, with a liquid silicon mix.
“That’s how she’d advertise it; everyone knows her as La Tia,” says Valley Bureau Homicide Detective Bob Dinlocker of the Los Angeles Police Department. Other victims were subjected to the same technique by the woman. “There are a lot of stories on the internet about people cutting medical-grade silicon with the same thing they use to caulk their windows,” Dinlocker says. “It enters the bloodstream, wreaking havoc on the heart, brain, and kidneys.”
Both ladies are now facing murder charges. The operation would cost between $3,500 and $4,500, according to the woman. A Brazilian Butt Lift usually costs between $10,000 and $15,000.
Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton of the Los Angeles Police Department said, “These are highly dangerous, unlicensed medical practices that are propagating themselves through social media.”
