Orson Charles, a former Georgia football tight end and fullback, was arrested in Ybor City on Friday after pulling a gun on officers.
On November 21, 2011, Orson was named a finalist for the 2011 John Mackey Award, and he was drafted in the fourth round, 116th overall, of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Why Was He Arrested In The City Of Ybor?
According to a Tampa Police Department report, Orson Charles was detained early Saturday morning in Ybor City on multiple felony charges after drawing a gun during an argument over a parking space.
Charles, a former athlete, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed firearm, and bringing contraband into a detention facility. According to the report, he was found with a misdemeanor amount of marijuana in his possession.
He signed with the Cleveland Browns on July 30, 2018, and he made the team’s final roster as the team’s fourth tight end. Despite being listed as a tight end, Orson spent most of the 2018 season as a fullback.
The footballer was named to the 2018 Pro Bowl as a fullback, and Browns coaches have indicated that he is one. On December 13, 2018, the Browns placed him on injured reserve due to an ankle injury.
On April 3, 2019, he re-signed with the Browns. Charles was waived by the Browns on August 11, 2019.
He joined the Denver Broncos on August 21, 2019, and was released on August 31, 2019. On November 19, 2019, Charles was re-signed, but he was released three days later.
Orson was selected by the DC Defenders in the sixth round of the 2020 XFL Draft, but he did not sign with the team.
Is Orson Charles In Jail Now?
According to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office records, Orson Charles was still being held in jail early Saturday afternoon on a $6,250 bond.
He was arrested for wanton endangerment on March 31, 2014, in Richmond, Kentucky. Orson was pulled over by a police officer after another driver reported that Orson had displayed a gun multiple times.
The formal athlete pleaded guilty to wanton endangerment in February 2015 and will participate in a diversion program.

According to the TPD report, the victims were attempting to park near the intersection of 19th Street and Eighth Avenue shortly before midnight when Orson Charles attempted to enter the space from the opposite direction.
The formal athlete got out of his car and approached the driver’s side of the other car. According to the criminal report affidavit, when the driver opened the driver’s side door to speak with Orson, he pulled a black firearm from under his shirt.
“I don’t give a f***; I have one in the head,” Charles said when the victims identified themselves as police officers and displayed their badges.
The victims left the parking spot, but not before reporting the incident to an off-duty sheriff’s deputy and keeping an eye on Charles until he was apprehended. According to the TPD report, his permit to carry a concealed firearm was found to be expired.
